Weather Amsterdam

See the weather for Amsterdam

Thanks to its location close to the north of Europe, with the North Sea close to the west, Amsterdam’s weather benefits from a cool oceanic climate. This means it can be a good time to visit the city in any month of the year.

Amsterdam winter weather temperatures are cool to mild, benefiting from the fact that the city is surrounded on three sides by large bodies of water. Nights rarely fall below -5C even though other parts of the country see much lower temperatures.

Summers are moderately warm but rarely hot. The average daily high in August is 21C, with Amsterdam temperatures only exceeding 30 °C about three times a year, in contrast to famous cities further south such as Rome or Barcelona. It does rain quite often, about every second day on average throughout the year, but most of this comes in the form of drizzle or light rains. Cloudy, damp days are common between October and March, but it will not be too cold to see the highlights of Amsterdam despite the weather.
